Resolution Depth Support
Posted

By
default, Starstrike boots in 16 bit resolution depth mode.
A lot of systems don't support this resolution even when Windows
settings are configured to 16 bit. If you have one of these
operating systems you will need to use the command line switch
"-32b" in order to get the game running. Anyone
who's receiving the "Resolution Not Supported" or
"16-bit Mode Not Supported" errors on boot need
to view this
thread for specific instructions on setting the resolution
depth.
If
you have any further problems, please post on the forums under
the Technical category.

Website
and Forums back online - Development continuing!
Posted

Hi everyone!
After
a solid year and a half hiatus I'm happy to announce that
the website and forums are back online, and development on
StarStrike has once again recommenced in earnest!
Halfway
through last year, after having tried in vain for months to
locate a 2D graphics artist to create the look and feel for
the game, other life issues came to the fore for us, and with
production delayed without an asset artist we decided to put
development on hold (or at least, slow it right down) until
we could find someone to plug the gap.
It has
been quite a while since then, during which time the site
was attacked by hackers and the forum destroyed by malicious
code from an unknown source. Since production was at a standstill
I never bothered repairing the damage and the forums have
been offline since then.
However,
after so long I am happy to have found an asset contributor
to create new, far better looking unit and structure animations.
I've yet to hear from him in relation to my invitation to
formally join the development team, so I can't identify him
to you all just yet, but he's a regular over at the Unknown
Worlds Natural Selection forums and the work he's produced
so far has been excellent. All of the marine and alien structures
have been replaced, and the Skulk and Gorge both have all
new graphics and animations. Hopefully we can get at least
one nice new tileset soon as well, and I'd like to tweak the
UI a bit as well.
Over the
next few days I am working on compiling a brand new Alpha
release for you all, containing some new maps, AI upgrades
and miscellaneous tweaks and additions I've been working on
unannounced in idle spare time over the last year. In a short
while I'll be posting this new Alpha build to the site, and
hopefully we can reestablish a new community of interest in
the game and get things back into full swing!
As ever,
we always welcome comments and constructive criticism, as
well as bug reports and wishlists, to aid us in producing
the best game possible. Tell all your friends about the game
and keep posting on the forums to keep the community alive!
Thanks
to all of you for all your support!

Work
continues on the next Alpha release. Items ready to go are
the Alien interface so a human player can play as the Aliens
as well as the Marines, and a better AI system that is capable
of building its own base from scratch, seeking out new resource
nodes and attacking the player or other AI's. Still more work
to go; have a look at the latest entry in the Developer
Blog for more info. The main feature currently under development
is proper unit pathfinding; there is info in the blog about
this too. This is the last item needed before Alpha 2 is released,
so not long now!
As
always, feedback is encouraged and appreciated. Please download
the game and comment about your experience on the forums!
Registration on the forums is not required to lurk and read,
but is necessary to make a post. It only takes a few seconds,
and then you are free to contribute any information, comments,
complaints or suggestions you like!

Patch
1.1 - Memory leak and Vector Crash bug resolved
Posted
by Agent on Wedesday, January 16

Finally
the Vector Crash Bughunt is over; the cause of the bug has
been identified and a fix has been implemented. The game will
no longer chew up increasing amounts of system memory until
it is all consumed and the game crashes. It will now sit on
a comfortably small amount of memory allocation and the Vector
Crash appears to have disappeared along with the memory leak.
A
patch has been released to address the issue; check the Downloads
page to grab it. Just overwrite the old executable with the
new one and you're good to go.
If
anyone experiences a Vector Crash bug after installing the
patch please let us know by commenting on the Technical category
of the forums.

website goes live!

Welcome
to the brand new Starstrike website. There is a lot going
on right now, but much of this place is finished and online.
If you're here at this stage then you have probably been directed
here personally by a member of the Devteam to have a look
at our work in progress. Feel free to explore, but forgive
malfunctions and absent functionality for the time being;
we're not quite ready yet!
If
you'd like to download the latest build and try out the game,
proceed directly to our Downloads
section to find the link. If you're just poking around, you'll
find some info about the game on the Starstrike
Info page, screenshots in the Gallery
and development comments in the Developer
Blog. The Forums are also online and accepting posts as
of today.
If
you have any comments (regarding the site, forum system or
the game itself), please write to me: agent at ausleague dot
com.
Enjoy!
